Academic internships offer you the opportunity to earn academic credit while gaining valuable real-world work experience, under the supervision of an invested faculty mentor.
Bassett Academic Internships
Eligibility and Credit Hours:
- For-Credit Academic internships are only open to Juniors or Seniors, in good academic standing with the college
- Students must have a minimum 2.25 GPA for an unpaid internship
- All for-credit internships, paid or unpaid, are three (3) credit hours, and all satisfy the Experiential Cross Area Requirement. In some majors, internships may fulfill other major or collegiate requirements (See the Academic Catalog).
Work hours:
- All internships are expected to involve a minimum of 130 hours of supervised work (with a recommendation for 160)
Application Process:
- All internships require an application be completed on prior to the deadline listed below. This application will be reviewed and approved by the faculty internship supervisor, academic advisor, chair of the department granting the credit, as well as the Director of the Bassett Internship Program.
- Students are required to upload a current copy of their resume with the on-line application.
Intern Placement Model
海角乱伦专区鈥檚 academic internships are unique, in part, because of the high level of customization to a student鈥檚 interests and needs. Faculty members take pride in their connections to their field that help find well-matched opportunities for students.
- Student will work through the appropriate Academic Department Liaison
- Academic Department Liaisons interview each student intern to determine each student’s internship objectives.
- In most cases, the Academic Department Liaison is responsible for recruiting, selecting and vetting appropriate sites to match departmental learning objectives.
- Students may participate directly in the selection/development of a particular site (i.e. find their own internship), and many departments require that students take most of the responsibility in the case of paid internships, but all placements must be approved by the Academic Department Liaison. Each internship must meet admission and participation requirements and meet the learning objectives of the department and the Bassett Internship Program as a whole.
